EHV disconnect switch are critical components in power systems, where reliability directly impacts grid safety. Traditional mechanical drives face challenges such as slow response and severe wear, while fault diagnosis relies on manual inspections with low efficiency. This paper proposes a novel magnetic fluid-based drive mechanism integrated with deep learning for intelligent mechanical fault diagnosis.
The magnetic fluid drive utilizes a magnetic field to control the flow of ferrofluids (e.g., Fe₃O₄ suspension). Gradient fields generated by electromagnetic coils drive piston movement. Compared to conventional motors, this design offers zero mechanical friction, rapid response (<10ms), and maintenance-free operation.
- Magnetic field intensity: ≥0.5T (to ensure sufficient driving force)
- Fluid viscosity: 50–200 cP (balancing flow and sealing)
- Temperature range: -40℃ to +80℃ (for extreme environments)
Data from vibration sensors, current waveforms, and thermal cameras are fused to construct a 3D fault feature matrix, covering >80% of common failures (e.g., jamming, bearing wear).
- CNN: Extracts spatial features from vibration signals
- LSTM: Captures temporal anomalies in current waveforms
- Accuracy: 98.7% (tested on real-world datasets)
Tests on a 550kV GIS platform showed:
- Magnetic fluid drive: Service life extended to 50,000 cycles (vs. 20,000 for conventional drives)
- Diagnosis system: Average fault warning time advanced by 72 hours.
The integration of magnetic fluid drives and AI diagnosis offers a high-reliability solution for EHV equipment, with potential applications in HVDC breakers.
