HAIVO Completes Routine, Power-Frequency Withstand, and Mechanical Operation Tests on 24 kV Drop-Out Fuse Cutouts for Uruguay’s UTE
HAIVO has completed a factory test programme for 24 kV drop-out fuse cutouts intended for the Uruguayan utility Administración Nacional de Usinas y Trasmisiones Eléctricas (UTE). The programme covered routine tests, power-frequency withstand tests, and mechanical operation tests. Technical coordination was carried out with Matías Sebastián of UTE.
The testing was performed at HAIVO’s manufacturing and test facilities. Its purpose was to provide factory-level evidence that the 24 kV drop-out fuse cutouts meet the insulation, operational, and production-consistency requirements applicable to medium-voltage overhead distribution equipment. The test programme supports UTE’s technical evaluation of cutout units for use in its distribution network.
For 24 kV drop-out fuse cutouts, the routine test sequence typically includes insulation verification, power-frequency voltage checks, and operational confirmation of the drop-out mechanism. These tests are not intended to replace type tests; they verify that materials, assembly tolerances, contact alignment, and mechanical adjustment remain consistent across the delivered production lot.
For a utility such as UTE, which procures distribution protective equipment in delivery batches, routine test records provide an important layer of quality evidence. They confirm that the units supplied correspond to the tested design and that production controls remain stable during manufacturing.
The power-frequency withstand test applies a specified AC voltage for a defined duration to verify the insulation system of the cutout. This includes the external housing, internal clearances, and fuse-tube interfaces. For 24 kV-class drop-out fuse cutouts, dry and wet power-frequency withstand values are specified according to the applicable standard and customer technical requirement. The test confirms that the insulation system sustains the specified power-frequency stress without flashover or breakdown.
In UTE’s network environment, overhead distribution lines may be exposed to varying humidity, pollution, and switching conditions. Power-frequency withstand verification therefore provides a baseline check of creepage adequacy and housing integrity before the cutouts are released for network installation.
The mechanical operation test evaluates the moving assembly of the cutout, including the hinge mechanism, fuse-carrier retention, latch release, and drop-out characteristics. The cutout is subjected to repeated open-close operations to confirm that the mechanism operates within the intended force envelope and that the visible-break function remains repeatable after cycling.
This test is directly relevant to field reliability. A drop-out fuse cutout must release cleanly under fault conditions and provide a clear visible break after operation. Mechanical operation testing verifies that the hinge and latch system performs consistently and that the cutout maintains its operational function after repeated mechanical cycles.
UTE operates an extensive medium-voltage distribution network and applies rigorous technical specifications to protective equipment. The completion of routine, dielectric, and mechanical tests on the 24 kV drop-out fuse cutouts provides documented factory evidence for UTE’s technical review. The test records cover production consistency, insulation performance under power-frequency stress, and mechanical operation of the drop-out assembly.
At HAIVO, the test programme reflects a continued focus on verifiable factory testing for medium-voltage distribution products. Test reports and technical documentation are available to support customer qualification and incoming inspection.
For UTE and its technical representative Matías Sebastián, the completed tests provide a documented basis for evaluating HAIVO’s 24 kV drop-out fuse cutouts for overhead distribution feeder and transformer protection applications. HAIVO remains committed to providing transparent test evidence and technical support for utility customers in Uruguay and across international markets.
